The painting “Landscape” (2023) has been shortlisted for the inaugural Maldon Landscape Prize.

An exhibition of finalists’ work will be held from 29 October 2023 – 11 November 2023. An award of $10,000 will be awarded on 28 October.

Gippsland Art Gallery 2023, March 3 — May 21

Robert and Kynan prove that the plein air painting tradition is as vital as ever through works that capture the essence of the outdoors. The paintings brought together here are the happy product of excursions into nature conducted over the last four years, and show the benefits of being connected to the natural world. ‘Plein air painting enjoys renewed significance at a time when many people feel disconnected from the natural world’, the artists write. ‘Working outside restores a sense of connection to the landscape and encourages viewers to experience the same quality of immersion’.

LAKE GLENMAGGIE ARTISTS' CAMP 2023

This January marks the return of the famous Gippsland Art Gallery ‘Summer School’, with guest tutors Robert Maclaurin and Kynan Sutherland leading an artists’ camp on the shores of Lake Glenmaggie. Participants will spend a week at the beautiful Munjara Outdoor Centre learning the skills and techniques of ‘plein air’ painting with Robert and Kynan.

LEN FOX PAINTING PRIZE

The Len Fox Painting Award is a biennial acquisitive painting prize and is awarded to a living Australian artist to commemorate the life and work of Emanuel Phillips Fox (1865–1915), the uncle of Len Fox, partner of benefactor Mona Fox.

The A.M.E. Bale Travelling Scholarship and Art Prize is awarded biennially to Australian artists who have demonstrated talent and achievement in traditional styles. This includes realist, figurative and representational styles.
